The old 'every 3,000 miles' oil change rule is a thing of the past for most modern vehicles. Here's what you need to know:
Synthetic Oil Changes
Most modern cars using synthetic oil can go 7,500–10,000 miles between changes. Synthetic oil resists breakdown better and provides superior engine protection.
Conventional Oil
If your vehicle uses conventional oil, stick to 3,000–5,000 mile intervals. Conventional oil breaks down faster under heat and stress.
Severe Driving Conditions
If you do a lot of stop-and-go city driving, tow regularly, or drive in extreme temperatures, you may need more frequent changes regardless of oil type.
Check Your Manual
