The most common reason patients postpone implants is fear of pain. In reality, with modern numbing and guided placement, most describe the experience as less uncomfortable than a wisdom-tooth removal.
During surgery you are fully numb. The guided sleeve controls depth and angle, so the drill runs for seconds rather than minutes. A single implant is typically 20–40 minutes, including the CBCT checks. You hear vibration, feel pressure, but sharp pain is rare — we add anaesthesia if you feel anything.
After the numbing wears off (2–3 hours later), expect a dull ache and mild swelling peaking at 24 hours. Cold compresses, paracetamol and sleeping with your head elevated help. Most patients report a 2–3 out of 10 ache on day one, 1/10 on day two, and forget about it by day three. Stitches dissolve in 7–10 days.
Multiple or full-arch implants involve more swelling but the same principle: planned, precise, and with a clear after-care sheet. We call you on day two and review at day seven. The crown is placed after 3–4 months of integration — during which you chew normally on the other side.
