No. Scaling removes tartar that already adheres to enamel — it does not shave enamel. The ultrasonic tip vibrates tartar off; a polishing paste then smooths the surface so plaque sticks less. Sensitivity for a day is common if gums were inflamed, but enamel stays intact. Regular six-month scaling actually protects enamel by removing bacteria-laden deposits.

A well-placed implant with good oral hygiene and a protective night guard if you grind can last 15+ years, often longer. The crown on top may need replacement after 10–12 years due to wear — like any crown. We review bone levels yearly with a low-dose X-ray and give a maintenance plan: floss threader daily, water flosser at night and a six-month hygienist visit.

You will feel tightness for 2–3 days after each new tray — a sign the tooth is moving. It is usually a dull pressure, not a sharp ache, and settles as you wear the tray 22 hours. Over-the-counter pain relief is rarely needed after the first week. If an edge rubs, we polish it at the next visit or ship you a small emery file.

Often yes, but we screen first. If recession or exposed roots are the cause, we treat that (bonding, desensitising varnish) before whitening. Our hydrogen peroxide gel is 20% and calcium-enriched; we paint a gum barrier and control contact time. Most sensitive patients whiten successfully with shorter cycles and a desensitising mousse afterwards.

When infection reaches the pulp of a baby molar, a pulpotomy (partial nerve removal) plus a stainless steel crown saves the tooth until the permanent premolar is ready to erupt. Extraction is a last resort because the space would be lost. Fluoride and sealants earlier often prevent reaching this stage.

After a composite filling or RCT core, you can eat once the numbness wears off (2–3 hours) — chewing on the other side if the bite feels high. Avoid very hot, hard or sticky foods for 24 hours. If the tooth was crowned, we advice a soft diet that evening and normal foods next day.
