The care ritual: keeping gold brilliant at home
A ten-minute routine that keeps your pieces case-ready — and the mistakes that dull gold faster than time.
The monthly wash
Warm water, a drop of dish soap, and a soft baby toothbrush. Scrub gently, rinse, and dry with a lint-free cloth. Ten minutes, every month, beats any polish.
What dulls gold
- Perfume and hairspray — always put jewellery on last.
- Chlorine — pools and hot tubs are the fastest way to dull and weaken gold.
- Storage with other jewellery — chains tangle and scratch; store pieces apart, in soft cloth.
What to leave to us
Rhodium re-plating, prong checks and ultrasonic cleaning are free for life at our store. Bring your pieces in whenever you visit — most of our clients do it twice a year, before the two wedding seasons.
