A day in the life of a rescue volunteer
Kennel rounds, a camp shift, and a last-minute rescue call — what one Saturday actually looks like.
Volunteers often ask what a shift really involves. Here is one real Saturday.
7:30 AM — kennel rounds
Walk the kennels, spot-clean soiled bedding, refill water, and note who isn't eating for the vet. The recovering dogs get their medications logged.
10 AM — camp setup
We set up carriers, nets, and the sedation station for the day's sterilisation camp. Handlers go out on a mapped route.
2 PM — the call
A hit-and-run on the Baner bypass. Two of us take the van. We're back by 4 with a dog on a drip and a story for the journal.
5 PM — winding down
Evening feeding, a quick debrief, and the new volunteers get their orientation. Home by 6:30, tired and certain we'll be back next week.
