Three days to decompress
Your new animal may not eat, may hide, may seem shut down. This is normal. Keep the house quiet, give them a safe corner, and do not force interaction. Food and water out, and let them come to you.
Three weeks to learn the routine
By three weeks most animals have learned where the food lives, when walks happen, and who the people are. Start gentle training and a predictable schedule now.
Three months to feel at home
At three months, personality emerges. The dog who hid under the table is now claiming the sofa. This is when you'll see who they really are.
