Mango: a monsoon puppy pulled from a drain

Hypothermic and alone in a flooded nullah near Kothrud, Mango is now three weeks into recovery and looking for a foster home.

The call came at 6:40 AM during the first heavy monsoon shower: a puppy, stuck in a roadside drain in Kothrud, water rising fast. Our volunteer waded in up to her knees and lifted out a small, grey, motionless pup. His temperature was too low to register on our ear thermometer.

Warming and the first 48 hours

We wrapped Mango in warm towels, used a heating pad on low, and tube-fed glucose. The first night, he did not move. By the second morning, he lifted his head. By day three, he was growling at the stethoscope — a wonderful sign.

Mango is now three weeks into recovery, eating well, and looking for a foster home while he finishes his vaccinations. He will be a small-to-medium adult.

What it cost

The emergency kit, glucose, heating, and three weeks of kennel care came to roughly ₹6,200 — funded entirely by small donations.
