Progressive Overload, Explained Without the Jargon

The single principle behind every transformation we've published — and the three honest ways to apply it.

Muscles adapt to what you ask of them. Ask a little more each week — more weight, more reps, or better range — and they grow stronger. Stop asking, stop adapting. That's progressive overload, and it's the whole game.

Three ways to progress

  1. Add reps at the same weight. 8 reps this week, 9 next. Simple and brutally effective for beginners.
  2. Add weight at the same reps. Once 3×8 feels crisp, add 2.5 kg and build back to 8s.
  3. Improve quality. Same numbers, deeper squat, slower lowering, tighter pause. Underrated and joint-friendly.

The part everyone skips

Progress requires recovery. Sleep, food and deload weeks aren't interruptions to training — they're where the adaptation happens. More is not a strategy; more than last month is.
