Instrument path

Voice

The instrument you carry everywhere — and the one most worth learning to use well.

Everyone can sing. Not everyone has been shown how to sing in a way that lasts. Voice lessons at Cadenza House are about removing the things that get in the way of the voice you already have — tension, breath-holding, the habit of pushing — so that what is left is free, honest, and sustainable.

We work across contemporary and light classical styles, and we choose repertoire with you, not for you. If there is a song you have always wanted to sing, that is the right place to start. We are careful with young and changing voices, and we teach to the voice you have today.

Is voice right for you?

If you want to sing, yes. You do not need to "have a voice" before you begin — that is what lessons are for. We work with shy beginners, confident performers, choir singers who want better breath control, and adults who were told as children that they could not sing. (They could.)

What you will need

  • Nothing to begin with — your voice is the instrument
  • A recording of your lessons, so you can hear your own progress (a phone is fine)
  • A willingness to be surprised by what your voice can do
