Repotting without the shock

A calm, stepwise repot method that keeps roots — and leaves — happy.

Repotting goes wrong when we treat it like surgery under emergency lights. Slow down and the plant barely notices.

The method

  1. Water the day before — hydrated roots bend, dry ones snap
  2. New pot just 5 cm wider; a mansion invites soggy soil
  3. Cover the drain hole with crock, add a mound of fresh mix
  4. Tease circling roots loose gently; skip it for finicky ficus
  5. Set at the old soil line — deeper buries the stem collar
  6. Water once to settle, then wait a week before feeding

Expect a week of sulking. New growth within a month is your receipt.
