Monthly ABC camps that humanely stabilise street-dog colonies and vaccinate against rabies.
Animal Birth Control (ABC) is the only humane, proven way to stabilise a street-dog population. We run monthly camps with our vets and volunteer handlers: catch, sterilise, vaccinate against rabies, ear-tag, and release back to the same territory.
Why the same territory?
A sterilised dog returned to its own street holds that territory against unsterilised newcomers. Remove the dog and a new, fertile, unvaccinated dog moves in — and the population keeps growing. It sounds counterintuitive, but returning is the whole point.
What a camp day looks like
We start before dawn with handlers on a mapped colony. Dogs are netted, transported in shaded carriers, operated under sedation by a licensed vet, given pain relief, ear-tipped, held overnight for recovery, and released the next morning. We logged 184 dogs in the last quarter.
Rabies vaccination is bundled into every camp and given to colony dogs that are not sterilised too.
