From rehearsal to stage: a 30-day countdown
How we take a piece from first run-through to opening night.
A performance does not happen on opening night — it happens in the thirty days before. Here is the countdown we use for every showcase piece, from studio to stage.
Days 30–21: Learn
The choreography is taught in sections, slowly, with each dancer marking their own path through the space. We do not run the piece yet. We learn it like a sentence — word by word.
Days 20–11: Build
Now we run it, in halves and then whole. This is where stamina is built and timing is set. Mistakes are welcome — this is the ugly phase that makes the next phase possible.
Days 10–4: Refine
Runs are clean. We work transitions, breath, and the moments between the steps — the places audiences feel but cannot name. We start dancing it, not just doing it.
Days 3–1: Trust
Light runs, full costume, low effort. The work is done. Now we rest and trust it. The night before, everyone sleeps early. The stage does the rest.
