Front-Load vs Top-Load Washing Machine Maintenance Guide
Front-load and top-load washing machines need different care. Follow the right routine for your machine and it will run cleaner, quieter, and longer — and your clothes will smell fresher too.
Door seal care (front-load)
The rubber door gasket on a front-load washer traps water and lint, which breeds mould and that musty smell. Wipe the seal dry after every wash and leave the door ajar between loads. Once a month, run a 60°C empty cycle with a descaler to kill biofilm inside the drum and pump.
Drum cleaning
Both front- and top-load drums build up a hard water scale over time. Run a drum-clean cycle (or a 90°C empty wash) with a washing-machine descaler every 3 months. In Bengaluru's hard water, this doubles the life of your heating element and keeps whites from greying.
Filter descaling
The lint filter (top-load) and the pump filter (front-load) need monthly cleaning. A clogged filter forces the pump to work harder and causes 'drain error' codes. Front-load pumps are behind a small flap at the bottom — drain the little hose first, then unscrew and rinse the filter.
Top-load agitator check
If your top-load agitates weakly or makes a grinding noise, the agitator dogs or the drive coupler are worn — a ₹400 part. Don't ignore it; a slipping agitator strains the motor and belt. We replace both in a single visit with genuine parts and a 90-day warranty.
Monthly maintenance checklist
