Why We Still Draw by Hand

In the studio we still start with a 0.5 pencil. The slowness forces you to think about thickness, not just outline — how a 230 mm brick wall holds a window, where a 20 mm shadow gap lets a ceiling float.

The hand remembers

When you draw a section by hand you decide what matters. A computer will hatch everything; a hand will leave a courtyard white so the eye goes there first. That hierarchy is design.

We do move to CAD/3D quickly — but the first lines remain by hand, pinned above the table.
