What 80G Really Means for a Small Donor

If you gave ₹5,000 last year, here is how much tax you saved and how many school days that same money actually bought.

What 80G Really Means for a Small Donor cover

80G means your donation is deductible at 50% under the old tax regime. A ₹5,000 gift effectively costs ₹3,500 after deduction if you are in the 30% bracket — and funds a girl's scholarship for 10 months.

Where the rupees went

In 2023-24, 84% of donations went directly to programmes (education 31%, water 22%, health 18%, livelihoods 13%), 9% to administration and 7% to fundraising. Every rupee is shown village-wise in the Annual Report.

Receipts are emailed within 48 hours of credit and uploaded to the IT portal on the 5th of next quarter. No phone call required.
