A child reading at one of our evening learning centres

Every Child Reads runs 14 evening learning centres across Madurai district, where trained volunteers help children from marginalised families build strong foundations in reading, writing and mathematics. Classes run five evenings a week, after school hours, and are free for every enrolled child.

The programme does not stop at literacy. Each centre houses a small library that children can borrow from, and once a month we hold reading circles where parents are invited to sit with their children and share a story. Over 1,200 children are currently enrolled, and assessments show that children who attend for a full year gain an average of two grade levels in reading.
