Skill to Succeed
Livelihoods
Skill to Succeed trains young adults from low-income families in trades that are genuinely in demand in and around Madurai: tailoring, two-wheeler and small-appliance repair, and basic digital skills including typing, spreadsheets and mobile banking. Courses run for three to six months at our two training centres.
Training alone is not enough, so each course ends with a placement week. We work with local workshops, garment units and retailers to match graduates with employers, and we follow up for six months after placement to make sure the job holds. For women who prefer to work from home, we provide start-up kits — a sewing machine, for instance — repayable through a no-interest loan.
Numbers that matter
- 620 graduates placed in jobs since 2019
- 210 women started home-based tailoring units
- 87% of graduates still employed after one year
- Average monthly earning of graduates: ₹14,500
